(Don't worry: I'm not expecting you to know / completely understand ALL of the content within it--but you should still try! Maybe even look up things you don't know.) After, write 3-4 sentences summarizing the following:
  • (1) Why is this a "proof"? What makes it a proof?
  • (2) How does the writer actually "prove" the PELST? Describe what he does.
  • (3) PELST is a theorem. Look up what a theorem is. Also, look up what a postulate is. Then, compare/contrast.

Due Friday, 9/5/14
epsilon: (a) Finish the investigation - (b) Formal write-up of your pattern is due: one write-up must be of the patterns from "Fun with Patterns," and the other one MUST be about "Rings of Circles." Due Thursday, 8/28/14
delta & epsilon: Finish , which you started in class. FOCUS ON CONNECTING YOUR Nth TERM METHODS/FORMULAS TO THE ACTUAL PATTERNS THEMSELVES. Those formulas LIVE inside the patterns!

Due Wednesday, 8/27/14
delta: (1) Re-explain/put in your own words the formula representation that Anna developed for the N-by-N window. (2) Pick one of the other representations that we had in class -- 2n^2 + 2n / 2n(n + 1) / n(2n + 2) -- and connect it to the actual window.
epsilon: (1) Re-explain/put in your own words the formula representation that Saphire, Graham, and Ayinde developed for the N-by-N winwow. (2) Pick one of the other representations that we had in class -- 2n^2 + 2n / n(n + 1) + n(n + 1) -- and connect it to the actual window.

Due Tuesday, 8/26/14
delta & epsilon: Write up what you've got so far from the N-by-N window problem. If you get a formula, connect it back to the window (how does the formula "live" in the window or come from it?). If you can't get a formula, at least describe a method for figuring out the number of sticks in the different size windows AND write about everything you've tried so far. Don't give up!
